Santa Fe’s Distinguished Landscape Architecture Firm Receives High Honors at NMSLA Awards Ceremony

Surroundings expands their studio space, moving to a new location in the Railyard Arts District and hires a new team member

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE— November 21, 2016; Santa Fe, New Mexico: Surroundings, a leading landscape architecture firm based in Santa Fe, is pleased to announce that they are the recipient of four awards presented at the 2016 New Mexico Society of Landscape Architects (NMSLA) Awards Ceremony, held on November 12 at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The distinguished awards reinforce Surroundings’ innovative approach to landscape architecture with a focus on creative water conservation design.

The firm received awards in four categories including the Top Award in New Mexico with the Award of Excellence for the project Woven Plains, the top Design Exploratory Honor Award for the Seaholm Intake Design Competition, the top Communication Honor Award for Old School Green Infrastructure and a Design Constructed Merit Award for the El Parque del Rio Project. Faith Okuma, a principal at Surroundings, also was honored with the society's Professional Distinction Award. 

In addition to establishing themselves as innovation leaders in the field of landscape architecture and master planning, Surroundings has recently welcomed their newest full-time team member, Linda Pak. Ms. Pak joins the Surroundings team as a Project Assistant. On December 1, Surroundings will move into a new studio, the former James Kelly Gallery, located at 1611 Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe, NM, in order to accommodate their growing practice.

“For us, the move is about more space, more light and being a part of the vibrant Railyard Arts District,” said founding partner and principal Sandra Donner, RA. “We are excited to be adding more creative jobs in New Mexico and welcome the influence and inspiration of the growing and changing Railyard arts community.”

Surroundings Studio has just released an updated version of its website that adds project categories along with a slew of new project pages, and contains improved news and events pages that will be updated in sync with our Surroundings Facebook page ("Like us if you have not, to follow!).
